Dr. Robert D. Smith is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Harefield and The Royal Brompton Hospitals. He is the Clinical Lead for the Structural Heart Programme at both hospitals.
He obtained his medical degree from St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London School of Medicine in 1999. He was a Research Fellow of The University of London at Harefield Hospital. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.
Dr. Smith is and has been a Principal Investigator (global, UK or local) in numerous multicentre trials and research projects.
He has broad experience with different devices and technologies for mitral, left ventricle and tricuspid interventional procedures. In addition to over 250 MitraClip cases, he has performed transcatheter mitral and tricuspid repair and replacement procedures with more than ten different devices. He has also performed thousands of other coronary interventions and diagnostic procedures.
